To retain a client is easier than to obtain a new client. But the entire team must work at it and strive to learn as much as they can about the client and their industry. Additionally a conection with all levels of the client aids in retention. Meaning not only bonding with the CFO but also the bookkeeper, staff accountant, or other employees. That way good things are said about the firm when their name comes up.

Client relationship development is a long term process and can allow a company to build trust and a strong bond with the customer long after the initial sale has taken place.

If the organization does not see this area as a strategic component of their business, it will struggle to maintain long term clients and be pressed to find references for new opportunities.
